Tom Shea

Director of Junior Golf
Brooksville Country Club

Tom Shea’s journey from a challenging childhood to becoming a respected PGA Teaching Professional is a testament to resilience and the transformative power of golf. Born as Tom Burke, Shea’s early years were marked by tragedy and hardship. After losing his mother at the age of six and enduring an abusive and alcoholic father, he entered the foster system at eight, an experience that shaped his outlook on life and instilled a sense of determination.

Despite these early challenges, golf became Shea’s sanctuary and passion. Introduced to the sport at the age of 12 by his adopted parents at Beacon Hill Golf Course in New Jersey, he initially struggled but quickly grew to love the game. His hard work and dedication paid off as he excelled in high school and college golf, setting the stage for a lifelong career.

Shea’s professional journey took him from mini tours in California to a significant role in the golf business back in New Jersey, ultimately leading him to Brooksville Country Club. As a PGA Member for over 30 years, Shea has dedicated his life to teaching and inspiring young golfers, leveraging his personal experiences to connect with and mentor children facing their own challenges.

In addition to his work on the golf course, Shea extends his influence through his involvement with “A Kid’s Place,” a Tampa-based residential program for foster children. His role as a house parent and his commitment to supporting vulnerable youth off the golf course further illustrate his dedication to giving back and making a difference in the lives of others.

Tom Shea’s story is one of overcoming adversity, finding a purpose, and using personal struggles as a foundation for helping others. His contributions to golf and his community reflect his gratitude for the people and experiences that have shaped his life, making him a beloved figure in the world of golf and beyond.
